Fire in Umm Balula IDPs camp in Gereida city burns 212 homes

A fire in Umm Balula camp in Gereida city, South Darfur State, last Friday, completely burned 212 homes and partially burned 40 homes.

 Sheikh of Umm Balula camp Khalil Abdullah Abdel Nour explained that the fire broke out due to the explosion of a solar panel battery that was being used to charge phones. The fire quickly engulfed the homes of the IDPs, completely burned 212 homes and partially burned 40 homes.

According to the local partners of CDPO, the fire caused burns to 3 displaced people who are receiving treatment in the hospital.

The partners confirmed that more than 250 families are living in the open under harsh humanitarian conditions, and are in dire need of shelter and food after the fire destroyed the food they depend on.
